The NHL played their All-Star game last weekend, signaling that yes, once again, our Minnesota Wild find themselves in the midst of a season-long battle to make the playoffs in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League.
Of course, we here at Innovative Office Solutions wish them well in their quest for the post-season and once again remind you that we’re proud sponsors of the Charity of the Month program in partnership with the Wild. The program brings exposure to a different Minnesota charity each month throughout the NHL season. Giving back to the community and supporting worthy efforts is instilled in the culture of Innovative. Through our valued partnership with the Wild, we have helped over 80 charities elevate their brand! The Minnesota Wild Charity of the Month for February, 2016 is the American Heart Association.February is a big month for the American Heart Association, especially in the continuing fight to combat heart disease and stroke in women. From their website:
Our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends are at risk. Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined. Fortunately, we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
Get informed about the risks of heart disease and stroke. Know the red flags. Know your heart health story. Go Red For Women inspires women to make lifestyle changes, mobilize communities, and shape policies to save lives. United, we are working to improve the health of women in your community.
Friday, February 5 is National Wear Red Day, in conjunction with the American Heart Association’s, “Go Red for Women” campaign, which has made significant strides in breaking the barriers against heart disease and strokes in the last 10 years since the first National Wear Red Day.
Go Red for Women encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also takes action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease.
Through research and education to healthy lifestyle changes, the American Heart Association is proud that:
- Nearly 90% have made at least one healthy behavior change.
- More than one-third has lost weight.
- More than 50% have increased their exercise.
- 6 out of 10 have changed their diets.
- More than 40% have checked their cholesterol levels.
- One third has talked with their doctors about developing heart health plans.
- Today, nearly 300 fewer women die from heart disease and stroke each day
- Death in women has decreased by more than 30 percent over the past 10 years.
What’s alarming though is that heart disease and stroke kill 1 in 3 women, yet it’s 80% preventable. National Wear Red Day is just another way that the American Heart Association is raising funds for awareness and research so that they can continue to make positive strides.
Television anchors nationwide will be wearing red on Friday to show their support for this worthy cause. It’s this reach and determination that makes Innovative Office Solutions so proud to partner with the Minnesota Wild on the Charity of the Month program.
