Innovative Office Solutions is the proud sponsor of the Charity of the Month program in partnership with the Minnesota Wild. The program brings exposure to a different Minnesota Charity each month throughout the NHL season. The Minnesota Wild Charity of the Month for November 2014 is The Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund.
The mission of the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund is to support funding research, prevention, treatment and other programs relating to the needs of the Minnesota cancer community. Grants given are spent on technology and tools that enhance early detection of cancer, new programs promoting research to help prevent cancer relapses, projects that demonstrate research in the area of cancer, and programs that enhance the lives of Minnesota’s cancer community by providing aid and assistance.
Randy Shaver has been the Sports Director at KARE-11 Television in Minneapolis/St. Paul since 1994. Randy’s fight became intensely personal when he became a patient shortly after his 1998 tournament, causing, within Randy, a more intense focus on cancer research within the Minnesota cancer community. Diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Disease, Randy’s treatment and subsequent remission have understandably made him even more passionate than ever about finding a cure.
The Celebrity Golf Classic began in 1995 – raising a total of $27,000 it’s first year – has now grown into one of the most successful charitable golf tournaments in the state, raising more than $3.8 million to date. With a growing list of contributors and supporters, the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund was formed in 2003 to ensure that funds raised through the golf event and other endeavors would be used to fund research and cancer-related projects locally – in addition to a variety of other worthy causes each year. What makes this fund so unique is that less than 10% of the funds raised are spent on administrative costs, making it one of the most efficient uses of your charitable donation.
